High Sensitivity Array Radiation Portal Monitor

Overview

The High Sensitivity Array Radiation Portal Monitor (HSARPM) system was developed as a B2B and B2G security product for cargo transport and shipping facilities in partnership with a UCLA material science research lab for the purpose of tracking radioactive materials. This radiation detection ecosystem employs a proprietary PVT compound to detect radiation from the gamma, Neutron, and X-Ray spectrums. An evolution of the Modular Radiation Portal Monitor, the HSARPM was conceived as a higher sensitivity alternative with a larger exposure area, and the ability to passively scan highway and interstate traffic outside of designated weigh stations.

Close-Packable Hexagon Design

This system allows for HSARPM panels to be installed within 50mm (2-inches) of eachother, accounting for the dimensions of the handles. The ability to individually install each panel and respectively attach them to the Motherbox allows them to have an additional functionality. In the event of damage to any of the Panels, the decentralized nature of the system allows for the remainder of the HSARPM Panels to remain operational until repairs are made, and said repairs can be made by simply replacing the damaged section with a replacement Panel.

Motherbox System

Relevant to each RPM Array, a single Motherbox is required to operate each Tower. Motherboxes are machined from weatherproof aluminum with identical parts to those used for the Motherbox in the Modular Radiation Portal Monitor to withstand a wide array of environmental factors including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow and airborne particulate weather phenomena. Through using similar design principles as are used for similar hardware aboard commercial aircraft and constructed from both CNC billet and 10G aluminum panels, the Motherboxes are built to outlast the arrays they serve.

Side Handles for Safer Handling

Due to the large size of the HSARPM panels, 100mm (4-inch) wide handles were installed on each lateral side of the panels to allow for safer handling, increased efficiency and safety while installing, and decreased possibility of damage due to improper handling or accidents.

Cable connections

The connections from the Motherbox to the HSARPM panels are USB A to USBC respectively, and the Motherbox has outlets for an ethernet and power cable.
